Belle Haven – Little Polaroid Boy (Track Of The Day, 25th June)

Given that this Belle Haven song won’t leave my head, it is Track Of The Day today.

“Little Polaroid Boy” is fifth on the Melbourne band’s brand new album, You, Me and Everything in Between, it also seems to come laced with something addictive, because I can’t get enough of it.

I’m not sure whether it’s its heartfelt yet confrontational introduction, delicate melodies while vocal fire pours forth, impressive looped riffs, grungey feedback, catchy chorus, hooky ego finger pointing or all of the above.

“Little Polaroid Boy” is such a trip, beckoning a certain someone to hear and heed well precisely what they have done to the band. They did this, they made this situation happen. They led to confusion and complication. They left the situation feeling tangled instead of smoothly flowing. And now they will know, courtesy of this song and this moment of raw honesty, exactly what their actions resulted in.

“In this world of colour graded scenery
You are the one that molds your own reality
Creating hearts and painting them black
Dirty hands
Take it back”

From the second verse, with this sense of climbing and moving forward through difficulty, it feels satisfying to move into this almost mocking melody (“Your ego’s circling the drain..”), before a hard-hitting pre chorus and then a chorus that you just want to rock out to. I can’t wait to hear this played live. The 3/4 ending feels like one final dig in this adventure of a song that’s taken us through so much.

There’s just something about it. Wouldn’t you agree? Check it out if you haven’t yet, as well as the whole of You, Me and Everything in Between.
